Anyone driving a Toyota vehicle needs to be aware of recalls from Toyota concerning sudden acceleration. Toyota has been claiming that the acceleration is a result of faulty floor mats. However, this may not be the correct cause of the problem. The recall affects over 3.5 million cars.
Consumer Reports has articles on the problem:

There has been at least one death in California associated with the acceleration.
The NTSA has issued a report related to the accident in California. The report can be found at

In any event, if you are caught with a stuck pedal, or unintended acceleration, it is recommend that you put the car transmission in neutral, so that gas will not continue to flow through the fuel injectors. You need to slow down in a safe manner. Once the car is in neutral, it will be much easier to brake.
Here is the advisory from Toyota concerning the floor mats:

I found a list of Toyota vehicles included in the recall. I cannot guarantee that the list is complete.
2004-09 Prius
2005-10 Tacoma
2007-10 Tundra
2007-10 ES 350
2006-10 IS 250 and IS350
